What is Assisted Living?
Although each assisted living community operates a little differently, there are guidelines that all must follow. As a general rule, assisted living bridges the gap between “independent” living (whether living in one’s own home or in a retirement community) and a skilled nursing facility. The Department of Health Services (DHS) licenses assisted living centers in the state of Arizona. There are three levels of licensing: Supervisory, Personal, and Directed Care. Assisted living managers and caregivers are required to complete initial and on-going training requirements specific to the level of licensing.
